Mother's Day... Beer???
I have to face it: most mom's hate beer. Last year, I encouraged everyone to give their mothers the gift of a delicious six pack of craft brew instead of the usual card, flowers or Shari's Berries. But apparently, that didn't go over so well for most of you and for that I sincerely apologize. Moms are stubborn creatures of habit and it's hard to get them to try anything new let alone love and enjoy it. So, I'm giving up on the idea of getting moms to enjoy beer this Mother's Day. However, I have not given up on the idea of getting you to enjoy beer this Mother's Day.
This year, honor your mother and the love you have for her in the most honest way possible -- by enjoying the things that she doesn't approve of right under her nose! This day may be for her but remember, she wouldn't be celebrating Mother's Day at all if she didn't have a child. Go ahead and get your mom a card and some flowers and take her out to brunch and before you leave, stash one or two CANS of these delicious craft beers in book bag or purse. It will be the best mother's day EVER.
FOUNDERS ALL DAY IPA
If you're bringing Ma to a bottomless brunch, be sure to sneak in something light. The Founders Session IPA is balanced with a clean finish and tastes delicious in a parking lot or bathroom stall out of mom's field of vision.
FLYING DOG UNDER DOG ATLANTIC LAGER
Going to a similar boozy brunch but in more of a lager mood? Grab the Flying Dog Under Dog, which has a nice golden color, with a hint of hops and light sweetness and is the perfect drink to enjoy around the corner on a fake phone call while waiting for your brunch table to open up.
TWO ROADS WHITE IPA
Picnic in the park? Fantastic! Two Roads White IPA will break the chill of any spring breeze that might happen your way. Made with American yeast giving it a soft wheat backdrop, this white IPA pairs great with the backdrop of any park, tasting best on the lee side of a mighty oak tree.
OSKAR BLUES TEN FIDY
Need something a little meatier to go with those Shari's Berries? An Imperial Stout it is! This Oskar Blues brew has intense flavors of chocolate covered carmel and coffee so I would highly suggest setting your brunch table with a table cloth that reaches the floor. Shari's Berries are easily dropped on the ground and kicked under said table cloth where the Ten Fidy will be waiting for you like a secret love in an old movie. "I've almost got it mom... No, I'm not talking to anyone! Coming!"
21st AMENDMENT LOWER DE BOOM
I saved 21st Amendment's Lower De Boom for last, because a.) highest ABV and b.) it's an 8.4 oz can. Think about it, this little Barelywine go in an inside coat pocket or up a sleeve and with a well constructed long straw, you can take this baby anywhere! And I'm not using the term "baby" lightly. I want you to treat this little can as preciously as you would your own child. You're a parent now and that makes your mother a grandmother. Congratulate her and encourage her to share in the celebration!
But hey, if viewing an inanimate object as your offspring is not for you then you know, just drink it. There are thousands more delicious craft beers to be found in a can. (Craft Cans dot com is the stuff of dreams.) Hope you and your mother's have an excellent Mother's Day!
