Beerded Ladies

water + hops + malt + yeast + blog

This website is devoted to craft beer reviews, sudsy events, brewery tourism, stunning beertography, bad puns, offbeat beer pairings, dispatches from behind the bar and general beverage snobbery where we can apply terms like "biscuity" and talk about hop profiles.

Pumpkin Beer for People Who Like Beer at Proletariat

  • Proletariat 102 Saint Marks Place New York, NY, 10009 United States (map)

There. I said it. Pumpkin treats are fucking annoying. They arrive while the rising heat blurs the air above pavement. They are a gimmick. Companies feel obligated to indulge the masses and why not? It's easy money!

There are those few, however, whose vision is focused outside of the status quo; who, dare I say, may very well be taking the piss out of all of those over spiced and under contemplated warm weather-brewed pumpkin ales by simply expressing themselves!

Huzzah! We celebrate the following visionaries for doing things their own way:

Almanac Beer Co Pumpkin Sour - 11.0% abv, aged in both wine and Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels (San Francisco, CA)
Avery Brewing Company Pump(KY)n 2014 - 17.2% abv, Imperial Porter aged in bourbon barrels (Boulder, CO)
Central Waters Brewing Company Headless Heron - 8.5% abv, spiced bourbon barrel aged Scotch Ale (Amherst, WI)
Finback Brewery Dark Entity - 6.0% abv, spiced Porter w/ Stumptown Coffee Roasters coffee (Queens, NY)
Jolly Pumpkin Brewery La Parcela - 5.9% abv, foudre fermented sour ale w/ spices and cocoa (Dexter, MI)
Brasserie à Vapeur Potironne - 8.0% abv, Saison w/ orange peel and red pepper (Pipaix, Belgium)

Seasonal beers during the appropriate season! Cheers!
