Don’t worry - the folks at Sixpoint and Beer Advocate haven’t forgotten about it. The fourth annual Beer for Beasts returns in 2014 in a new time slot: September! This year’s sessions will be held Saturday, September 13th at the usual venue: The Bell House (149 7th St., at 3rd Ave., Gowanus). The annual event is one of our favorite beer events of the year here in New York, and it’s for a great cause: all proceeds go to the Humane Society of New York.
The festival features more than two dozen one-of-a-kind collaborative and unique small batch beers brewed only for the festival. Some are straightforward, like 2013’s Ray Deter Robust Porter brewed in honor of the late owner of d.b.a, or the 2012 creation of former brewer Ian McConnell, Hometown Pale Ale, which featured local hops and malt from Maine. Some are offbeat, like last year’s Not-So-Thin-Mint, a dark ale brewed with mint and vanilla, or the Hotter ‘N Helles, a helles brewed with habanero peppers from Sixpoint’s roof in 2012. Local members of the beer community often collaborate on some of the beers each year.
Tickets are $65 and include 4 hours of walk-around tasting of the beers (in two sessions, from 1-5pm and 6-10pm). In addition, food trucks are parked outside the venue so you can soak up that beer with some tasty treats.
